Fundamentals of Engineering Examination

As per the NCEES website, “The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is generally your first step in the process to becoming a professional licensed engineer (P.E.). It is designed for recent graduates and students who are close to finishing an undergraduate engineering degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited program”.

In 2003, five teachers in the College of Engineering at the University of South Florida started contributing questions for a Fundamentals of Engineering Question of the Day website. On this website, a question posed with multiple choices is selected randomly every day. The user gets the feedback about the choice they make, and can also seek a hint to answer the question.

Since we did not have a fair coverage of some of the topics, three more teachers joined the original group in 2009 to expand coverage of the topics for the FE examination, especially for the General Engineering exam.

Over the years, we have received queries from our website visitors if we could provide them with the complete solutions to all the questions in the test bank.  We had put these in a printed book at a nominal cost to support the cause.  We are now presenting all questions and solutions to you free of charge.

All questions are in the format of a question – choices – hint – solution – correct answer – contributor. Please try to answer the question yourself first, as that would help you prepare better for the examination.  Just looking at the solutions may give you a false confidence.

You can also check your competence towards the FE exam once a day by going to the Question of the Day website.

Would you like to contribute a question or two from your field. Just email us at autarkaw@yahoo.com.  It does not have to be fancy – it can be a handwritten scanned or photographed page with these sections (see sample) – we will do the rest and acknowledge your contribution.
